Position Summary:

This role will be involved in a multitude of actuarial support for Ryan Specialty business units, central functions, and/or external partners; work may relate to pricing, underwriting support, loss projection, and/or risk analysis.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the profitability analyses using traditional reserving methods for numerous business units, including start-to-finish scheduled analyses, reporting of results to management teams, support during strategy determination, and fulfillment of ad hoc requests & deep-dive analyses
  • Contribute to components of actuarial analytical evolution, which may include but are not limited to range analysis, large loss modeling, portfolio optimization, trend analytics, and industry benchmarking
  • Partner with actuarial pricing and UW management teams on SWOT analysis for business written
  • Create ad hoc reports, analyses, and data sets to identify and solve business problems
  • Be a champion of risk awareness and contribute to a sound risk awareness culture across Ryan Specialty
  • Help guide the actuarial Development & Operations team and the Claims Analytics Lead toward the successful implementation of a claim data process, the expansion of end-user reporting tools and self-serve dashboards, and the establishment of claim product monitoring metrics
  • Regularly communicate with and support insurance partners and their actuarial staff
  • Define compelling business arguments to elicit change in future or existing actuarial issues
  • Scheduled and ad hoc actuarial analyses of underwriting performance, profitability, and projection
  • Ownership of strategic analysis and predictive modeling aimed at process/rate/UW intelligence improvement, including identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and other strategic elements
  • Product and tool strategy & development in support of new and existing initiatives
  • Consistent and efficient communication with the underwriting teams, management teams, and central functions
  • Consistent and efficient communication with insurance partners and external actuarial teams

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in numerical or related field, including, but limited to, actuarial, mathematics, or finance
  • 5+ years of industry experience
  • FCAS, ACAS, or near - ACAS
  • Rooted knowledge of the insurance industry, especially the specialty, commercial, and/or reinsurance sectors
  • Proficient with data manipulation, modeling, and visualization tools (e.g., SQL, Alteryx, MS Office, PowerBI)
  • Actuarial designation
  • Strong technical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Solid interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills
  • Proven experience working with Excel, relational database tools, and visualization tools
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of insurance business
  • Ability to ask questions, manage upward, and get involved at all levels of process, as necessary
  • Experience working with large data sets and instances of incomplete/inconsistent data
  • Ability to think flexibly and react nimbly during critical moments
