Position Summary:

The Underwriting Technician will be responsible to perform the following tasks with a moderate degree of competency, high level of supervision and no underwriting authority.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible to Rate New and Renewal Business.
  • Completing Rating Changes timely and coordinated with the Underwriter.
  • Convert and Book Policies.
  • Build Accurate Policies.
  • Processing & Completing Endorsements.
  • Process Cancellations and High-Level Changes.
  • Demonstrate Knowledge of specific rates, experience using Silver Plume, and applying where applicable.
  • Responsible for logging in, quoting, and processing new and renewal business.
  • Research and respond to broker correspondence, calls, billing inquires and requests for loss runs.
  • Issue binders, certificates of insurance, auto ID cards and quote proposals.
  • Process policies, endorsements and auto error reports (state specific).
  • Update and ensure the accuracy of TECH, request boiler surveys and calculate replacement cost estimates.
  • Set-up renewals for underwriter review and rating.
  • Assist Underwriters, Supervisor, and other departments with fluctuating work-loads.
  • Train new assistants.
  • Identify and bring forward any changes for inclusion in the Assistant Underwriter manual.
  • Sort and distribute daily correspondence.
  • Assist with special projects and assignments that may be required by the Underwriting Department.
  • Manage and prioritize your responsibilities.
  • Share knowledge, be a team player, assist team members.
  • Listen effectively and enhance communication skills.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • At least 6 to 12 months of insurance or relevant business experience.
  • Ability to understand written and oral communication, and interpret abstract information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and dependable; able to multitask and meet multiple deadlines.

The target hourly range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00 hourly. The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
