Position Summary:

The Loss Protection Engineer is focused on creating, maintaining, and improving Loss Protection Initiatives with minimal supervision. The engineer will also need to communicate regularly to the underwriting staff, as well as to brokers and their clients, regarding these various initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews Loss Control Reports, sends out correspondences to underwriters and brokers regarding the findings, and follows up with the broker to ensure timely site compliance with recommendations.
  • Fields questions regarding loss control standards and programs; whether it comes from the UW, broker, or client.
  • Provide engineering, construction, and/or fire protection related knowledge to underwriters to aid them in understanding more complex risks.
  • Uses Loss Control Reporting information to modify Aurora files.
  • Manages Loss Control Site Visits to ensure covered projects are being inspected promptly and routinely; through a combination of visiting sites personally and scheduling visits through third party representatives visiting sites on behalf of the company.
  • Responsible for the management of Loss Control Information Systems (such as the GC List and Security Tracking)
  • Participates in the claims process by providing information related to loss control findings.
  • Updating the Loss Control Toolbox book based on latest relevant NFPA codes.
  • Orders additional Loss Control Toolbox books as needed, and distributes them to third party representatives.
  • Responsible for performing all Security Assessments to determine adequacy of a vendor and/or their security proposal; whether it is a case-by-case assessment or an approved vendor assessment.
  • Conducts periodic audits of approved vendors to ensure compliance with the TRU Surveillance Standards
  • Coordinates with vendors and the insured to advance the Waterflow Initiative Program on specific projects.
  • Provides key input with regard to processing builder’s risk submissions.


  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred or consideration for 3-5 years of experience in construction, civil engineering, and/or fire protection engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years Construction Risk Management/Loss Prevention experience.
  • Ability to manage workload with minimal supervision.
  • Critical attention to details.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including, but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Proven track record of being a team player.
  • May be required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
