Ryan Specialty Group is looking for a Catostrophe Modeler to join our Chicago, IL team. We are a fast paced, energetic and rapidly growing organization that offers a great opportunity for someone interested in further developing their career.

Position Summary:

As a Catastrophe Modeler, you will work with underwriting and actuarial teams to quantify CAT risk embedded in insurance submissions for the US operations. The role will also support broader risk management initiatives in collaboration with corporate areas.

Essential Functions:
  • Processing the client data files, modeling the policy options and locations in Riskbrowser / Risklink
  • Will work closely with the underwriter and actuaries to understand exposures, review modeling results, explain modeling limitations and resolve issues promptly.
  • Will support the monthly risk aggregation process.
  • Participate in corporate workgroups and committees related to cat modeling and cat risk management.
  • Develop processes & scripts to facilitate data transfers and optimize risk calculations.
  • Responsible for maintaining catastrophe modeling systems and manage analysis workflow.
  • Advise underwriters and senior management on potential incurred losses, post-event.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned
Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years’ experience in a CAT modeling role. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with RMS products, especially RiskLink, is required. Knowledge of AIR products preferred.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance terms and conditions preferred but not required.
  • Undergraduate-level knowledge of statistical and mathematical concepts required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access). SQL, VBA, and other programming languages are a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage workload with minimal supervision.
  • Critical attention to details.
  • Proven track record of being a team player.
