Position Summary:

Responsible for the maintenance and administration of Ryan Specialty Groups property catastrophe modeling technology infrastructure and implementation of data strategy including proper architecting of data storage systems, management of data intake and workflow, integration of data from independent systems / sources, and performance tuning of the environment for optimal efficiency.

 

Work closely with RSG procurement and business teams to manage property catastrophe modeling vendor relationships, contracts, and licensing.  Liaise between RSG Enterprise Data and IT Infrastructure teams to leverage corporate resources in the delivery of property catastrophe and non-catastrophe data analysis as part of businesses’ competitive advantage.

 

This role is focused solely on catastrophe and non-catastrophe property insurance and reinsurance; all casualty lines are out of scope.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintenance and Administration of RSG’s property catastrophe modeling technology infrastructure working directly with Catastrophe Modeling business team and RSG’s technology Infrastructure team.
  • Deploy, administer, performance test, tune, and troubleshoot RMS Risk Link and AIR Touchstone distributed application environment (client servers, analysis servers, database job servers)
  • Working closely with the catastrophe modeling team, drive automation and efficiency of property catastrophe modeling data workflow including data intake, staging, analysis, warehousing, consolidation, and reporting leveraging Microsoft SQL server ETL tools.  Establish an efficient process for archiving/retrieving catastrophe model databases
  • Responsible for property catastrophe modeling application vendor management (primarily RMS and Verisk AIR) including regular interaction with vendors to review operational performance of applications and environment, coordinate contract  renewals working with procurement and business team, manage application upgrades, service patches, and attend vendor training to ensure RSG’s implementation of modeling capabilities are optimized and in line with industry practice.
  • Support property catastrophe model change management efforts through model testing and validation efforts with an emphasis on evaluating change impact and performing deep-dive analysis where needed.
  • Develop and implement property catastrophe modeling and non-catastrophe property actuarial data warehousing strategy (disk and memory resources, data schema / naming conventions, integration with RSG’s Enterprise data strategy, archiving, etc.).  Participate in the development and integration of property catastrophe model exposure and catastrophe and non-catastrophe loss databases with claims and policy management systems
  • Maximize the value of the application portfolio to the catastrophe modeling team:
    • Convey application enhancements in relation to the businesses supported
    • Share best practices across all of the business supported by the application(s)
    • Organize/deliver user training and technical support as required.
    • Convey application activities related to defects and issues in relation to the businesses

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Masters’ degree in technology, science, engineering, mathematics, finance or related field.
  • Experience deploying and administering distributed application architecture in a Microsoft Windows server operating system environment.
  • Programming and management of databases including Oracle and Microsoft SQL
  • Advanced technical knowledge of  major catastrophe models, including RMS, AIR and EQECAT and simulation methodologies
  • Good knowledge of insurance and reinsurance contracts
  • Experience in developing functional and technical requirements for tool development according to business specifications
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
