Senior Underwriter - A&E

Position Summary:

The A&E Senior Underwriter will handle existing renewal business as well as grow new business, and maintain those accounts throughout the term. Develop a disciplined underwriting approach, adhering to standards and best practices for MGU and ensuring assigned program underwriting results are consistent with established guidelines and profitable for the both the company and carriers. The candidate will be a member of the MGU underwriting team focused on driving efficiency and providing service to a fast-growing company. This position will require the ability to handle a relatively high volume of transactions during the peak business cycles therefore it is essential that the candidate can multitask and work efficiently with a high degree of organizational skill.

Essential Functions:

  • The solicitation, quoting, and binding of submissions in accordance with MGU Underwriting Managers guidelines specific to your Underwriting Letter of Authority granted by the team leader and/or Carrier.
  • Complete documentation and management of all accounts assigned.
  • Review work completed by Brokers for accuracy.
  • Apply appropriate factors to rating basis/formulas provided.
  • Marketing visits to assigned wholesale clients relevant to your book of business.
  • Participate in underwriting meetings/educational seminars/continued education courses offered.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years in underwriting professional products, Architects and Engineers experience preferred. 
  • Must obtain license within a designated time period, if not currently licensed.
  • Demonstrated proficient technical underwriting expertise.  
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Strong business acumen and deep knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Self-directed Individual with initiative, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Customer service skills: listening and understanding client business priorities.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
  • Ability to manage workload with minimal supervision.
  • Critical attention to details.
  • Proven track record of being a team player.
  • May be required to have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

The target salary range for this position is $90,000-130,000 annually. The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
