Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting Broker and learning all aspects of wholesale insurance with the goal of becoming a Broker.  Working with a Broker to build individual and new relationships with retail agency professionals. Working to create and maintain retail agent relationships and learning how to bind and manage that business successfully.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists Broker in managing the service and market placement of Broker’s portfolio of accounts.
  • Works to maintain cooperative and dependable relationships with retail agencies and brokerages; may make sales calls to the agencies/ brokerages.
  • Learning how to market new and renewal business.
  • Works to support the Broker in achieving targeted annual revenue goals.
  • Working toward being able to demonstrate broad knowledge of commercial property and/or casualty coverages with insurance carrier and other markets.
  • Learning to evaluate submissions from retail insurance brokers and to identify exposures and coverage required.
  • Learning to identify market direction, scope of coverage, pricing, and contract language.
  • Will learn to create submissions and follows through with market placements.
  • Working with Broker to understand how to communicate and negotiate with insurance markets and retail brokers.
  • Evaluates quotes and contract provisions offered by insurance markets.
  • Working to be able to understand all aspects of quoting to include competitive pricing, contract language and necessary details on quotes to retail insurance brokers/
  • Working toward successfully negotiating market placement of new and/ or renewal business; orders binders.
  • Working to understand the entire submission to binding process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience and knowledge considered.
  • Relevant experience in a commercial insurance brokerage or underwriting environment including wholesale brokerage experience helpful but not required.
  • Must be licensed by appropriate state or working to obtain a license once offered employment.
  • Track record of being able to build trusted working relationships
  • Highest level of customer relations and negotiating skills to effect profitable results.
  • Independent judgement is required to plan, prioritize and organize diversified workload.
  • Critical attention to details.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office including Power Point, Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Ability to travel on short notice; travel could be substantial.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
