Position Summary:

This position works with insurance carriers' claims departments to discuss coverage issues and retail agents to ensure the timely reporting of insurance claims.

Essential Functions:

  • Proactively investigate, negotiate and resolve marine claims, involving complex issues and/or litigation.
  • Ensure that claims are analyzed for coverage, adjusted and paid properly within company guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients.
  • Coordinate and manage communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Responsible for claims processing and administration.
  • Evaluate and address coverage issues and determine appropriate reserving levels.
  • Maintain an active diary.
  • Drive effective subrogation/salvage processes.
  • Ensure that all claims handled within authority limits and in line with our procedures and guidelines.
  • Selects vendors, lawyers, independent surveyors and monitor expenses paid too these vendors to ensure service quality.
  • Ensure the use of best practices and compliance with all Company policies.
  • Review and analyze claim reports to identify and address trends.
  • Develop and implement strategies to correct adverse trends.


  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 5 years of experience handling Ocean Marine claims or other claims, or a willingness to train.
  • Proficient understanding in relevant products, wordings, terms and conditions and coverages.


  • Strong litigation management skills, excellent interpersonal skills, strong written communication skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively across various levels in the organization.
  • Extensive knowledge of claims handling process from notification to settlement and recovery.
  • Strong technical claims knowledge.
  • Capable of working and collaborating with team members.
  • Proactive and forward thinking approach to claims handling.
  • Ability prioritizing multiple work streams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word.
  • Ability to travel as needed for mediations.
  • Superior communications skills.
