Position Summary:

The Ryan Re Underwriter Assistant will be part of the Property Treaty team and will work closely with our Property Underwriters in assisting the team with all facets of Treaty Underwriting. The position reports to the Head of Property Treaty.

Essential Functions:

  • Recording and tracking of submissions received.
  • Accurately capture information on the status of a treaty reinsurance program during the submission to bind process, including information on layers/programs not bound.
  • Breaking down and rebuilding submissions data to assist with running actuarial pricing models and catastrophe modeling as part of the underwriting process
  • Position may include some direct communication with brokers/cedents in support of the underwriting team.
  • Ability to provide input and support to Ryan Re as we build our reinsurance systems and processes. 
  • Partner with and assist the Claims and Operations team in supporting their efforts in connection with underwriting when not in peak renewal seasons.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of up to 2 years reinsurance/insurance policy administration experience and/or underwriting experience.
  • Technologically savvy and data driven.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a highly automated, paperless environment, including specialized software packages.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain complex issues, receive and interpret complex and abstract information, and respond appropriately.
  • The individual will be required to proactively manage their time and workload to meet tight deadlines around peak business seasons in supporting the data processing and analytics requirements of the Underwriting team and in connection with Reinsurance Operations functions.
